St. Johns Masters
Softball League
2026 Schedule and Results

*1 - Open dates for rainouts. A decision whether a game is rained out will be made by executive committee with notification by 4pm, if possible. This Season, rainouts will be played on open Sundays identified at the end of each round.
*2 - Kids Eat Smart Tournament Tuesday July 14 to Sunday July 19. Round robin games also count in season standings.
*3 - Regatta Day (Rainout if Regatta is a go, may be played if Regatta canceled). Game will be rescheduled to next open date.
*4 - Positions in standings for point ties, in both season and tournament play, are determined in order of least games played, most wins, most points in games played among tied teams, best run differential, most runs scored, and least runs against.
*5 - Playoff rainouts. If rainouts occur in the first two week nights of the playoffs they will be rescheduled to, first. Friday Sept 11, and, second, Monday Sept 14. The game originally scheduled for Friday Sept 11 will then be played Saturday Sept 12 at: 5:30 pm. The game originally scheduled for Monday Sept 14 will be played Sunday Sept 13 at 5:30pm. If further rescheduling is required in the first two week nights of play they will be played from Tuesday Sept 15 onward and all games originally scheduled for those dates will be advanced one evening or one time slot for weekend play. For weekend rainouts, Sept 12 and 13, rainouts will be completed from Sept 15 onward after any week night rainouts have been completed. Again, to accommodate these games, originally scheduled games will be pushed ahead one evening or a time slot for weekend play. All games on the weekend of Sept 12 and 13 will be played as scheduled. If a rainout occurs on those dates it will not affect the scheduling of other games on that day. All rainout games from Sept 15 onward will be played in order of the earliest rainout, however if one of these final four dates is rained out, requiring rescheduling to a different day, it will be moved to the end of schedule thus avoiding rescheduling of the other three games. But if more than one is rained out the original order of the four will be attempted to be maintained. For round robin and playoff games, the maximum number of games a team can play on one day is two.
*u - u in front of a team score indicates a lost point for not supplying umpiring services for alternate - game that evening. Home team responsible for umpiring alternate game. To accommodate lost point in the standings, a win has been reduced to a tie, or a tie to a loss, for the team in question only.
*d - d in front of a team score indicates a default.

A default occurs when a team cannot field nine (9) players, from either the roster or assigned spares. The roster are drafted and permanently assigned players.
There is a one (1) point default and a two (2) point default.
For a one (1) point default, the defaulting team either:
(a) cannot field eight (8) players from the roster (no assigned spares);
(b) can only field nine (9) players using players picked up at the field along with players from the roster and assigned spares. (In this situation, nine (9) players cannot be exceeded and if players from the roster, or assigned spares arrive after the game has started they will replace players picked up at the field);
(c) or use a catcher supplied from the other team and field eight (8) players from either the roster, assigned spares, or players picked up at the field.
In a one (1) point default, the non-defaulting team is awarded one (1) point and teams play for one (1) point.
- For a two (2) point default, a team cannot field eight (8) players, from either the roster, assigned spares, or players picked up at the field. No game is played and the opposing team is awarded two (2) points. If, however, the opposing team defaults one (1) point then the opposing team is awarded one (1) point.
- Spares are assigned by the Spare List Committee or Executive only. Assigned spares can play with no restrictions other than they must bat and field at the bottom of the orders as submitted to the Executive. Long term replacement players can occupy the position in the order of the player they are temporarily replacing.
- If the game ends in a tie the non-defaulting team gets the point played for.
- If both teams default they play for one (1) point only (no point for either if a tie).
- Defaults are determined at the start of games. Players arriving late will not change a default outcome.

SUMMARY OF LEAGUE RULES (please consult Handbook for details)

All games will commence at scheduled game times.
HR1 -The Association uses a second plate at home for runners to touch in attempting to score. A runner touching the actual home plate will be called out. Depending on weather conditions, the umpire may waive the requirement to touch the second plate; a line will be drawn through, and the runner can then pass over it.
HR2 - A strike mat will be used for all league play.
HR3 - Two chalk lines, one at a distance of 50 feet from home plate and the second at a distance of 65 feet from home plate, will be placed on the field before each scheduled day of play. Each line will be at least two feet wide. There will be no pitching rubber placed on the field in the interest of pitcher safety. The pitching zone is 24 inches wide located 50 to 65 feet from home plate. Prior to releasing a pitch, the pitcher must have his foot firmly on the ground within the confines of the pitching zone.
HR4 - A painted curve will be added to the field from foul line to foul line. It will be placed at a distance of 60 feet from any point on the grass boundary of the infield. Outfielders must stay behind this line until the batter makes contact with the ball. Infielders must stand on the sand of the infield until the batter makes contact with the ball.
HR5 - Only bats provided by the Association are to be used during league play. For Players who are sixty years of age or older during the calendar year, aluminum bats will be permitted. For Players who are seventy years of age or older during the calendar year, an SPN approved bat will be made available. These bats will be appropriately marked so they are not used by other Players. All other Players must use wooden bats.
HR6 - In the interest of Player safety, pitchers must wear a mask when pitching.
HR7 - In the interest of Player safety, all batters are encouraged to wear an approved batting helmet while in the batters box and while running the bases.
HR8 - For safety, all catchers should wear a face mask.
HR9 - A Player must at all times during a game wear, completely visible, the jersey for his team. This rule may be waived at the discretion of the Executive Committee or umpire, for example, if temperature or precipitation conditions warrant. If the Executive Committee deems a Player has not complied with this rule and again violates the rule, he will not be permitted to play.
HR10 - Jewelry is permitted on the playing field.
HR11 -A Player who is injured in a game and who, in the home plate umpires opinion, cannot continue to play at the time can be replaced by a pinch runner if he is batting or the next available person on the sitout list if he is fielding when injured. The Player will be out of the game and will be an out if he is unable to take his next at bat or if he is unable to return to the field for his next scheduled appearance according to the sitout order.
HR12 - Each team can hit a maximum of two (2) over-the-fence home runs during a game. Any additional over-the-fence home runs will be considered an out.
HR13 - The maximum runs that can be scored in an inning is five. However, in the seventh inning, there is no limit.
HR14 - Each batter will begin his at bat with a one ball, one strike count.
HR15 - During the regular season a team can play with eight (8) Players, but must borrow one Player (who must be a catcher) from the opposing team. A team with nine (9) Players, cannot borrow a Player. If a team cannot field eight (8) Players, the game is considered a forfeit. During the playoffs, a team must field a minimum of nine (9) Players with no borrowing.
HR16 - To ensure equal playing time for all Players, each team must set a fielding order, which may be different from the teams batting lineup. This order will be used to rotate fielders during each game. Each Player will sit out in rotation as his name appears in the fielding order, continuing on from the last Player to sit out from the teams previous game. Fielding order can change at the same time as batting order. The Executive Committee can replace a Team Rep or default a game if this rule is abused.
HR17 - Players can slide into second or third base if desired. Runners are allowed to slide back into first base. Sliding into home plate (or the safety plate) is not permitted.
HR18 - Only seven replacement base runners may be used by each team during a game. Each player can be a replacement runner once per game.
HR19 - When a 70 year old or older player requests a runner, the replacement runner will not count as one of the seven runners allotted to his team per game. However as per HR18, each player can only be a replacement runner once per game.
